Ebb and Flow

Porta Portese Multi-use

Once a volatile floodplane, the plot of land which straddles trastevere and the centro storico district of Rome has since been cut off from the river and all semblances of river life have disappeared. Perhaps it is time to bring the river back to the once water fueled metropolis. An artifically flooded marshland of memory with seasonal ponds which reflect light, house plants, heat and cool, and facilitate program based on their ebb and flow. Thick habitable walls house galleries, exhibition and retail, while outstretched staircases slice through the striated site   and bring designers to the fablabs and offices which govern from above and allow goods to flow down to the people.
